I agree that blogs have better analytics, integration with tools like CRM and integration with other tools like forums. Blogs are also probably better for SEO efforts. However, Facebook Pages do have an edge in interaction.

Facebook Notes may also be cheaper to gain the right type of audience. One of the basic problems we're facing is how to get the right type of audience to the blog or the Page. With Facebook, you can show data about the demographics of people viewing the Page and thus the Notes. Thus, it might be easier to show the value of Notes than the value of a blog.

It might be good to create a grid of the strengths and weaknesses of blogs versus Facebook Notes.

Great insight. I have an ongoing curiousity how bigger brands are leveraging Facebook as a community building tool, how they really monitor metrics and how they tie Facbook communities in with existing community efforts. The Ford Explorer 2011 launch was really well done by most accounts - I am curious if it was integrated into other longer term Ford marketing/community activities, or if it was seen and judged as a one time event.

Sort of seems like a lot of community building (at least in tech) might continue to happen on the web, where you have:
- better analytics (per your post)
- better integration with marketing automation and CRM tools
- maybe even better community building tools, such as more advanced forums than you get with a Facebook page

I have no idea.
